Man wanted over fuel theft

The Police are looking for a 34-year-old man suspected to have stolen over 2,000 litres of fuel. The suspect, Abdallah Ngobi, a resident of Buwuni village, allegedly stole the fuel from a Kenyan trailer that had earlier been involved in an accident at Namasere, five kilometres on the Bugiri-Tororo highway. Police sources said the suspect fled his home with a two-month-old baby after his house caught fire when he was transferring the fuel from one jerrycan to another.
Three held over rape

The Police in Kumi district have arrested three men suspected to have gang-raped a woman in Mukura village, Mukura sub-county during a marriage ceremony on Sunday. The mid-eastern regional Police spokesperson, Hassan Nyene, identified the suspects as Gabriel Elomunite, 25, a resident of Apuyai village in Mukura, Patrick Echedu, 26, of Aduli village and Ben Omolo, a builder of Orapada village in Mukura. He said the victim, a resident of Bugembe in Jinja, was trapped by the three men when she went urinate in a nearby bush.
Volunteers get bicycles

A total of 49 voluntary workers have received bicycles under the Orphans and Vulnerable Children project. The project coordinator, Gilbert Omeda, on Tuesday said the workers were drawn from nine sub-counties in the district. He said the project is aimed at mitigating the vulnerability of orphans and other disadvantaged children to abuse and exploitation. Presiding over the handover of the bicycles, the district gender, labour and social development chairperson, Jane Rose Abiko, urged the volunteers to be vigilant in fighting defilement cases.
Bigombe given peace award

The former minister for the pacification of northern Uganda in the 1990s, Betty Bigombe, has received the prestigious Geuzen award, given by the Netherlands. Bigombe was given the award in recognition of her efforts to end the war between the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels and the Government of Uganda.The award is given to individuals or institutions that are devoted to fighting for democracy or against dictatorship and discrimination.
