THE Police in Tororo are holding a woman suspected to have been abducting girls and taking them to neighbouring Kenya.
Margaret Ajulat, 35, is alleged to have been luring girls between the ages of eight and 12 from their homes and taking them to Kenya to work as housegirls.
The Police apprehended her at the border town of Malaba after a tip-off from a nine-year-old girl’s parents.
Ajulat reportedly convinced her neighbour’s nine-year-old daughter to go to Kenya and work as a housegirl. The girl informed her parents, who in turn reported to the Police.
The Police then asked the girl’s parents to co-operate so that they could arrest Ajulat at the border.
The Tororo officer in charge of crime, Noah Byamugisha, said five people had earlier lodged complaints about the mysterious disappearance of their daughters.
He told journalists that they are already liaising with their Kenyan counterparts to trace the children and reunite them with their parents.
Byamugisha said the woman would be charged with child trafficking.
