MPs on the technology committee last Friday inspected a controversial mast constructed by WARID telecom in Amagoro village in Tororo district.
This followed a petition by the residents, saying the mast was built in the middle of a residential area and a noisy generator at the site disturbed their sleep.
Led by Kigulu North MP Edward Baliddawa, the legislators condemned the company for inconveniencing the residents and ignoring guidelines on construction of masts.
“We learnt that WARID hardly introduced themselves to local authorities and did not bother to get approval of district environmental office,†Baliddawa told journalists.
“But we can’t authoritatively comment on the measures that will be taken against WARID, since we are obliged to report back to Parliament.â€
Efforts to get a comment from the company were futile as officers refused to talk to The New Vision.
