Torrential rains killing fish
Fishing in Moyo and Adjumani districts is being hampered by torrential rainfalls. The muddy water from the streams feeding the River Nile has cut off sufficient oxygen for the Nile Perch, killing several of them. “It is now hard to get Nile Perch be yet it is the most demanded fish,†said Teopista Mungwedio, an owner of a food joint at Laropi ferry landing site. Jackson Ondoga, the Moyo fisheries officer, said Nile Perch needs a lot of oxygen. “Unlike the mud fish, they cannot migrate upstream for fresh air and water, that is why they end up dying,†he said.
