A body of an eight-year-old boy was found floating in a lagoon in Arua Municipality on Tuesday. The boy, whose identity had not been established by press time, was thought to have come from Bibia Cell in Arua Hill Division.

The incomplete lagoon belongs to Arua Hospital. Court recently halted the construction of the sewage facility after residents complained that it would cause diseases in the area.

“I came to the site in the morning and found the body floating,” said Ali Bamuru, the site watchman, adding that the boy could have drowned on Saturday when he was not at work.

Bamuru said the site had become a swimming pool for the children in the area. “It is hard to chase them away.” The incident has drawn a wide protest from the residents, who have demanded that the lagoon is covered.

“This thing will finish our children because it is along their way to school. We want it closed,” said Juma Invile, the LCI secretary for security.

Regional Police commander Patrick Otika said the Police was investigating the matter.
