A 70-year-old man has been arrested by the Police in Kole district on suspicion of murdering his wife. Charles Ogwang of Alikmola village in Apach parish in Aboke sub-county was arrested on Tuesday.

The body of his 65-year-old wife, Kaken Akao, was discovered in a nearby swamp.

“We found the body lying near the 10-litre jerrycan she had gone with to fetch water,” an eye-witness said. The childless couple separated two years ago, but slept together on the fateful day at the woman’s home, according to the Kole criminal investigations chief, George Okwir.

“We highly suspect that the woman was killed. So we have arrested him because they had not been on good terms. He will help us with the investigations,” he said.

Okwir added that the body was taken to Lira for a postmortem examination.
