LIRA - The people in Lango sub-region are demanding compensation from the Government for the damages caused during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency in northern Uganda.
Under the Lango War Claimants Association, war victims are seeking compensation for dead relatives, animals, birds and other personal possessions. The association is represented by Makmot Kibwonga and Company Advocates.
Their lawyer, Moses Aguma, said over 50,000 claimants had documented what they lost during the war.
However, local leaders are criticising the move.
Benson Dila, the Otwal sub-county chairman in Oyam district, said local leaders had not been involved in the process. But the lawyers said they were still collecting data, adding that the leaders would be informed on the developments later.
