THE regional cooperation ministry of Southern Sudan wants Moyo district and Kajo-Keji people in Sudan to resolve a land dispute through dialogue.
Early this month, angry residents of Moyo demonstrated over the alleged invasion of Gwere parish in Lefori sub-county by armed Sudanese soldiers who forced the farmers to harvest young crops.
Consequently, the border was closed and farming activities in Lefori sub-county in Moyo disrupted. In a bid to end the standoff, James Ernest Aremo, the South Sudan principal liaison officer based in Kampala, has asked Kajo-Keji authorities to resolve the dispute through “honest dialogueâ€.
In a letter to the Southern Sudanese Minister of Regional Cooperation, Lt. Gen. Oyai Deng, Aremo said: “The people should be allowed to farm at Lefori without interference.â€
Aremo and Moyo West MP Dr. Moses Apiliga had discussed the dispute between the neighbours.
The letter was copied to Moyo MPs, the Minister for the Presidency and head of protocol in the State House of Uganda.
Aremo added that the MTN mast being constructed at the border should not be interfered with. The Moyo Resident District Commissioner, John Abingwa, however, denied seeing the letter and said farmers in Lefori had resumed cultivation in a calm environment.
