PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has commended Amuru district clan chiefs for supporting investment initiatives in their area.
The President, who on Tuesday met the leaders at State House Entebbe, said the soil in Amuru had been tested and found suitable for sugarcane production.
He, therefore, recommended that the Madhvani Group begins producing sugar in the district because of the company’s proven track record in the sector.
According to a statement from State House, Museveni assured the delegation led by Justine Ocitti that the sugar industry would create more employment opportunities for their people and other Ugandans.
On investment, he said opposition politicians were deliberately telling lies to frustrate government efforts to take development to Amuru.
“They don’t want the Movement to take credit. Why should you be manipulated?†Museveni asked.
He pledged to help the district kill tsetse flies.
Museveni advised the chiefs to transform their ‘Lamogi clan government’ into a unifying body.
“If you call it government, you will rival with the four governments in the Constitution; the central, district, sub-county and town councils and cause confusion,†he said.
