WE’RE BEST: Aduku SS Girl Guides celebrate with the trophy on Tuesday

APAC district emerged overall winners of this year’s National Scouts Camporee Inter-patrol competitions that ended at the Kaazi national scouts camp on Tuesday.
The five-day camping competition that attracted over 5,000 scouts from all districts in the country was centred on the theme “Scouting and Environment conservation”.
Apac, which won the overall category, girls’ as well as the juniors’ competitions, will also represent Uganda at the -coming East African Scouts competition in December in Jinja.
Lira emerged second, while Owen from Jinja emerged the best and the Rockies from Bushenyi scooped the trophy for best disciplined patrol group.
Uganda’s Chief Scout, Emmanuel Pinto, who closed the camporee, challenged the scouts to exhibit a high degree of discipline.
He told the ecstatic scouts, “Once a scout always a scout. As scouts, you must take the challenge of leadership. We know of some leaders who are not supposed to be leaders because of their indiscipline.”
He added, “Our environment has been degraded, child sacrifice is rampant, team spirit is lacking, and Global Fund money intended for people suffering from HIV/AIDS has been stolen by the very people in leadership. These leaders lack a sense of justice and as scouts we must fight these.”
He appealed to the Uganda Scouts association to value the efforts of the scouts and reward and appreciate them while they are still alive.
