APAC LC5 candidate Col Okello-Engola has vowed to fight corruption in the district if elected, reports Patrick Opio.
Okello-Engola alias mac odwogo told a huge gathering at Boma Ground recently that corruption deprived the public of its rights to services.
“The tax payers are languishing and poverty-ridden as corrupt elements, including political leaders, swim in colossal sums of money received through bribery or diversions,†he said amid applause from the over 6,000 supporters.
Okello is contesting on the NRM ticket with the incumbent, Ben Olwa, for UPC and former deputy finance minister Henry Okello-Makmot as an independent candidate.
“During my period, accountability will form the core of governance. I will need the active support of the public in stamping out corruption from the district,†Okello said.
He said he would preach peace and unity across all parties in the district.
“Political differences must never compromise development efforts. We shall call all parties to a round table as development partners,†he said.
