THE government will embark on a massive recovery programme for northern Uganda once total peace returns to the area, the Minister of State for Northern uganda has said.
Grace Akello also told the people of Acholi that their land was secure and the Government would not sell it to foreign investors, as was rumoured by anti-government elements.
“After peace returns, you will go back to your ancestral land and start production,” Akello said.
She asked the residents of Amuru internally displaced people’s camp in Amuru sub-county, Kilak county in Gulu district on Saturday, where they thought the government would take the nearly 1.5 million Acholi people.
“Those saying the Government is planning to take Acholi land are just inciting the people against the government,” she said.
The minister, who was on a tour of the district, said the government was doing everything possible to restore peace in the northern region.
“There is time for everything. there is time for war, and there is time for peace. We shall soon be in peace time,” she said.
