MULAGO Hospital has barred the public from accessing the Kabale Siamese twins, pending an operation to separate them.

Mulago deputy executive director Dr. Doreen Male said people have been frequenting the hospital to see the twins. She said this inconveniences the twins’ mother, especially during breastfeeding.

“Some people had turned visiting the twins into a tourism activity. Such visits can expose the babies to diseases. We are also stopping the public from seeing these twins to allow the mother to breastfeed her children effectively,” she said.

The male twins, who are joined at the abdomen were born to 24-year-old Rosette Tusiime of Kekubo in Kabale municipality.

Male said the babies need to obtain the required weight of 10 kilogrammes before they can be separated.
