THREE of Kampala’s five divisions have not released results for the NRM primary polls. Only Kawempe Division had tallied the votes. The Central Division had not completed voting by press time.
In Nakawa Division, only nine of the 38 parishes had submitted their results by 4:00pm.
Joseph Ngabirano, the assistant NRM administrator of Nakawa Division, said the results that were expected in yesterday morning were not submitted.
He, however, added that they had received eight petitions from candidates complaining that their supporters’ names had been deleted from the registers. They also complained that the counting of votes was not transparent.
Ngabirano said the petitions would be forwarded to the NRM electoral commission.
He said voting in Kyambogo, Makerere University Business School, the Management Training Institute, Luzira and Kyanja were yet to be scheduled.
In Rubaga Division, voting had not taken place in Namungoona I and Namungoona II due to late delivery of election materials, according to the Rubaga NRM administrator, Ahmed Kiwalabye.
In the areas where voting had taken place, Singh Katongole was leading those in the race for the area MP.
He had 5,348 votes, followed by Ismail Seguya, who had 851. Dr. Isaac Lwanga had 725, while Dickson Matovu trailed with 600 votes.
In Kawempe Division, East African legislator Margaret Zziwa led her competitors for the Kampala Woman MP’s seat. She got 8,726 votes, followed by Asiah Kanabi, who had 2,172 votes. Sophie Male had 1,119.
If Zziwa wins in the other four divisions, she will become the NRM flag-bearer to battle for the seat with FDC’s Nabilah Nagayi Ssempala in next year’s elections.
Those in the MP race are Hajji Twaha Najja, who was leading with 2,583 votes. Vincent Nzaramba had 2,347. Naava Nabagesera was trailing with 935 votes.
Najja will face DP’s Ssebuliba Mutumba.
In Kawempe North, Andrew Kyambadde polled 2,290 voted against Moses Bwanika’s 1,828. He will face Nasser Takuba in next year’s general elections.
