VOTING in Busujju county in Mityana district continued yesterday in areas where the ballot materials were delivered late.
Two people are contesting for the parliamentary NRM flag-bearer. They are Vincent Nyanzi, the Incumbent and the economic monitoring state minister, and Joseph Musoke, the LC5 chairman.
Provisional results last evening indicated that Musoke was leading with about 60% of the votes.
In Mityana North constituency, residents of Miseebe Ndaiga in Bulera sub-county clashed with polling assistants citing election malpractices.
It was alleged that about 200 people from a tea estate voted twice. “We cannot allow the votes to be counted. Just burn them so that we know that we have not elected our leader,†one of the voters shouted.
The voters held the polling assistants hostage for about two hours until armed policemen rescued them.
The crowd became more unruly when the Police attempted to escort the assistant to a car to take the ballots to Kibuto Police post where the tallying would take place.
About one hundred voters walked three miles from Miseebe to Kibuto with the votes.
Three people are contesting for the NRM flag-bearere parliament seat. They are incumbent Dr. Gordon Ssematiko Katende, former minister Prof. Ssemakula Kiwanuka and former MP and currently Kabong resident district commissioner Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi.
In Mityana town council, voters included hundreds of students who turned up at Namukozi polling station.
The group stood in a queue monitored by two men.They carried pieces of papers with names of their candidates.
Students of Mityana SS voted at Kirumbi polling station.
Provisional results indicated that Dan Ssenkubuge was leading with 1,290 votes, while his closest competitor, Kizito Mubiru, had 1,250 votes. By press time, Willaim Matovu was trailing with 524 votes.
