PM Nsibambi to attend Kagame swearing-in

  • PRIME Minister Prof. Apolo Nsibambi is in Rwanda leading a Ugandan delegation to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Paul Kagame which takes place today at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

    Rwandan media yesterday reported that heads of state who jetted in for the fete included Francois Bozize of Central African Republic, Faure Gnassingbe of Togo, Yayi Boni of Benin, Mwai Kibaki of Kenya and Idriss Déby of Chad.

    Other delegates included Swazi premier Barnabas Dlamini, Algeria’s senate president Abdelkadir Bensalah and Tanzanian Prime Minister Minzengo Pinda.

    This will be Kagame’s second and constitutionally final seven-year presidential term. after winning the elections in August with 93% of the vote.

    More Heads of State that were expected by press time include Burundi’s Pierre Nkurunziza, Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo-Brazzaville and DRC’s Joseph Kabila.

    Others are Burkina Faso’s Blaise Compaoré, Nigerian Goodluck Jonathan, Algerian Abedelaziz Bouteflika, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia, Ali Bongo from Gabon, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Malawian Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika and Zambian Rupiah Banda.

    Also expected are all the 21 members of the Presidential Advisory Council made up of top global business executives and academics. Also expected to attend is the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Jean Ping.
