UGANDA has performed poorly in the fight against malaria due to the suspension of funding by the Global Fund in 2005 over massive corruption.

As a result, Uganda is not among the countries in Africa that have reduced malaria infections and deaths by 50% as it was envisaged.

Countries that have reduced morbidity and mortality by 50% include Rwanda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Eritrea, Botswana, Cape Verde, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland, São Tomé and Príncipe.

The nations were expected to achieve universal distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito bed-nets, increase anti-malarial distribution and treatment and spraying to control mosquitoes that transmit the malaria parasite.
