THE Rev. Can. Charles Gibbs, the head of the United Religious Initiative (URI) San Francisco California, has condemned the July 11 attack in Kampala, saying it was a violation of humanity.
In an open letter to the people of Uganda through URI-Kampala, Gibbs said the twin bombs that killed and wounded many innocent civilians in Kampala were a violation of the true values of all religions expressed in the Golden Rule - “Do to others what you would have them do to youâ€.
The bomb blasts left over 70 dead and others still in hospital after a bomb went off at the Kyadondo Rugby Club and at the Ethiopian Village restaurant.
“We join you in grieving the loss of life from this vicious attack on the very fabric of human community,†the letter read.
The URI is an internationally recognised interfaith network of people of diverse religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions active in 75 countries through the work of nearly 500 local cooperation circles, 14 of which are in Uganda.
“We join you in a commitment to rest the forces that seek to sow hatred and division, and to work together as people of diverse faiths to shine the light of interfaith cooperation for the good of all,†Gibbs said.
