THE man who allegedly confessed to torching the Kasubi tombs is still a suspect despite an ongoing examination to ascertain his mental state.

The criminal investigation directorate chief, Edward Ochom, yesterday said Joseph Musoke’s claims last week would be thoroughly probed.

“He is still a suspect given the seriousness of the crime he claimed to have committed,” Ochom said.

Musoke is still under Police custody.
Ochom’s deputy in charge of criminal investigations Moses Sakira said watching over suspects during treatment and mental examination is a routine procedure.

Musoke, a resident of Ndejje in Makindye sub-county, Wakiso district, last week told the Police that he was responsible for the March 16 blaze.

The fire razed the Buganda royal tombs where four Buganda kings are buried.

Meanwhile, two other men arrested at Kasubi on the day of the fire are still in custody.

Sakira declined to disclose where Swaibu Bwanika Kasekende and Deogratius Mubiru are detained.

It is alleged that Kasenkende was found loitering at the scene in a suspicious manner. The circumstances that led to Mubiru’s arrest are unclear.
