Nansana in water protest
KAMPALA
Residents of Nansana have petitioned the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) over the low water flow. This was during a sensitisation meeting which brought together residents and NWSC staff at Ivory Hotel in Nansana recently. The residents claimed they were being intimidated by people who threaten to disconnect them from the water supply if their bills are not paid promptly.
Minister for HIV strategy

Education minister Namirembe Bitamazire has vowed to implement policies aimed at strengthening the awareness of HIV/AIDS in schools. She said through the Presidential Initiative on AIDS Strategy in schools, the Ministry of Education had developed a school package for the management of HIV/AIDS. The message was delivered on Friday by John Agaba, the commissioner in charge of secondary schools, during a ceremony for rewarding the winners of the Uganda chapter of the 2009 East African Community essay writing competition.
Churches back govt plan

The Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) has designed strategies to supplement the Government’s efforts in providing quality education in Government-aided primary schools. The council has embarked on a one-year programme to improve pupil enrollment, retention, completion, transparency and accountability in the provision of basic education. The project will first be implemented in Tororo, Namutumba, Sembabule, Hoima, Kibaale and Masindi districts. The council education programme officer, Fr. John Byamukama, and other religious leaders introduced the project to the Hoima district leaders and education stakeholders on Tuesday. Byamukama said it would empower the parents and schools to provide quality education through information provision.
