THE Police have arrested 28 suspects and recovered 10 guns and two rocket propelled grenades in an operation carried out in eight districts.

Other items recovered were 91 bullets, sh42m and 560 boxes of handsaws suspected to have been stolen.

Among the suspects was a UPDF soldier nabbed in Masaka in possession of the two grenades.

The Police identified the other suspects said to have been terrorising the districts of Mubende, Mityana and Sembabule, as Cyavira Sentongo, Habib Kayondo, Ismail Kimera, Peter Mugerwa and Adad Kikomeko. The operation was conducted by the Rapid Response Unit.

Addressing the press at the unit’s headquarters in Kireka, Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said Sentongo and Mugerwa had criminal records, having taken part in a series of armed robberies and murders.

She said Sentongo had in the past escaped from a military barracks.
