PRESIDENT Museveni has expressed anger over teachers who continue imposing charges in government schools, warning that stern action would be taken.
“UPE was meant for the underprivileged children whose parents could not afford to pay fees. Charging money in UPE schools is illegal and the teachers found guilty of this act will be dealt with harshly,†he warned.
The President was speaking at a meeting with 847 veterans from Mpigi district whom he hosted at State House Entebbe over the weekend.
Museveni applauded the presidential principal private secretary, Amelia Kyambadde, for her efforts to improve the education, health, water and roads sectors in Mpigi.
The President urged the veterans to form SACCOs at each sub-county through which the Government will channel support to them. He donated 17 tractors, one for each sub-county.
Museveni encouraged the veterans to get more involved in income-generating projects.
He also emphasised the need for the East African federation, saying it would create markets for most agricultural products.
Citing improvements in the health, education, electricity, roads and water sectors, the veterans thanked the President for his efforts towards improving the living standards of the ordinary Ugandan.
They urged Museveni to run as the NRM presidential candidate in the 2011 general elections.
The meeting was also attended by minister for Luwero Triangle Nyombi Tembo, state minister for public service Ssezi Mbaguta, Maj.Gen. Joram Mugume and representatives from the district.
