THE Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has commended Eng. Badru Kiggundu, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), for his contribution to the promotion of democracy in Uganda.
This was during the launch of Kiggundu’s book, Wings That Got Me Soaring, at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala last Thursday.
The book gives an account of Kiggundu’s life, including his work at the EC.
Bukenya commended Kiggundu for allowing to leave his job as dean at Makerere University to head the commission.
Bukenya described Kiggundu’s book as a thesis of a man determined to succeed despite many challenges.
The Vice-President, who purchased a copy of the book at sh1m, called on Ugandans to develop a reading and writing culture.
He added that people should not be shy about telling their stories.
The Attorney General and justice minister, Khiddu Makubuya, said Ugandans should be grateful that Kiggundu was reappointed as EC chairperson, adding that if his (Kiggundu) term had ended without his contract being renewed, Uganda would have witnessed a constitutional crisis.
Kiggundu hailed President Yoweri Museveni for his re-appointing, saying his work was challenging but interesting.
He said he had written over 50 publications but his new book was “a unique piece of workâ€.
He thanked his family for their support, which he said enabled him to write the book and MK Publishers for publishing the book.
