PROF. Venansius Baryamureeba’s contract as the dean of the faculty of computing and information technology at Makerere University has been renewed for the next four years.
Baryamureeba is also the university’s acting vice-chancellor, a position he got in October last year.
The university appointments board renewed Baryamureeba’s contract at its 432nd meeting held early this month.
“We renewed his contract in recognition of the influence and great leadership he exhibits at the faculty,†said a source on the appointments board.
The university spokesperson, Gilbert Kadilo, said Baryamureeba is still the substantive dean of the faculty of computing.
However, Kadilo added that this did not mean Baryamureeba was holding two jobs at the university, explaining that he is just in acting capacity as vice-chancellor.
Baryamureeba has headed the computing faculty since its inception about 10 years ago.
He is hailed for building it from scratch to become the university’s leading income- generating academic unit, with enough space and up-to-date computing equipment.
Other officials whose contracts were renewed are Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu (dean faculty of economics and management) and Prof. Frank Kansiime (director Institute of Environment and Natural Resources).
