MP, Minister row over support in Butaleja

A Political quarrel has erupted between the Minister without Portfolio, Dorothy Hyuha and Bunyole MP Emmanuel Dombo (NRM).

On Sunday, Dombo declared he would support a third-year Makerere University student to contest against Hyuha for the Butaleja woman parliamentary seat in 2011.

He made the declaration at the district headquarters after a football match organised by the student, Celinah Nabandah.

“From now on, I am a campaign agent for Nabandah for the seat of woman MP for Butaleja,” Dombo declared.
He said his decision to back Nabandah was prompted by the fact that Hyuha was fronting somebody to stand against him.
“This minister is supporting the principal of Kabwangasi Teachers’ College (Dawson Muloki) to stand against me in 2011, so why can’t I also push someone to destabilise her?” he asked.

Dombo also said he had on several occasions written to Hyuha and the LC5 chairman, Richard Waya, seeking a reconciliation with them, in vain.
He also recently said he had written to the NRM party leaders about the problems between him and Hyuha.

But he added that while he was waiting for a meeting to sort out the matter, he saw Hyuha’s husband, Dan Hyuha, moving around with Muloki.

“They have introduced him to the voters. I thought it would be unfair on my part to sit and watch despite my effort to convene a meeting. I am left with no option but to back somebody who has asked for my support,” Dombo said.

He urged residents to vote for Nabandah, also a Movement supporter, saying she would unite the people of Butaleja and foster development in the area. Efforts to get a comment from Hyuha have been fruitless.

During an NRM delegates’ conference in Butaleja, chaired by party secretary general Amama Mbabazi, members accused Dombo of backing opposition candidates to stand against Hyuha.
