THE Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has asked the Commercial Court to stop the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) from imposing income tax on it.
The UCC petitioned the court seeking judicial review after the URA demanded payment of over sh163m as income tax, arguing that it is exempted from such taxes.
The URA, however, objected to UCC’s arguments, saying its income is not Government revenue since it is not paid into the Consolidated Fund.
UCC derives incomes from rented car parking, licences, spectrum fees, broadcasting services, international services, major and minor licences, which are taxable.
Justice Lameck Nsubuga-Mukasa, who is presiding over the case, will make a ruling on the matter on a date to be announced.
