President Yoweri Museveni wants stringent laws to deal with government officials who embezzle public funds.

Meeting Cabinet last week, the President reportedly directed the Attorney General, Khiddu Makubuya, to come up with legal provisions to be used in handling cases of embezzlement.

“I can’t allow corruption to continue. Those involved must be dealt with. We must end corruption, embezzlement, defilement and rape,” a source, who attended the Thursday meeting, quoted the President.

Museveni reportedly agreed to meet MPs “at an agreed time” and “see how the problem could be solved.”

Government chief whip Daudi Migereko confirmed the meeting but declined to divulge the details of the discussion.

Delivering the State-of-the-Nation Address to Parliament in June, Museveni declared the fight against corruption as the only war remaining after the defeat the of LRA.

Transparency International ranks Uganda 130th out of 180 most corrupt nations.
