TANZANIA’S former president Benjamin Mkapa will arrive in Uganda on Thursday to officiate at the Makerere University alumni reunion, reports Jude Kafuuma.

The university has organised the reunion of its alumni and stakeholders to come up with ways of transforming the institution.

Mkapa studied at the university and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

Addressing journalists at the Media Centre in Kampala yesterday, the university spokesperson, Gilbert Kadilo, said Mkapa will deliver a lecture on “The Role of the Alumni and the Academia in the Development of Institutions.”

President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady will also host Mkapa to a dinner where the university expects its alumni to contribute towards the construction of a high-rise convocation tower, restocking the library and give the university hospital a face-lift.
