MULAGO Hospital receives over 1,000 burn patients every year, an official of the Burns and Plastic Surgery Institute has said.

“Children below the age of five are the main victims of domestic burns, yet 50% of the burns were preventable,” Dr. Robert Ssentongo said at the launch of the Burns Awareness Week in Bwaise recently.

Mable Nakitto of the Injury Control Centre said 50% of their patients are victims of road accidents, while 20-30% of the injuries are due to violence and 11% are from burns.
