President Yoweri Museveni has commended Algeria for its role in promoting the African continent, reports Raymond Baguma.
This was during a meeting at State House in Entebbe on Friday night with Algeria’s outgoing ambassador, Aziria Abdelkader.
The President said Algeria had trained several prominent personalities in Africa, like former presidents Nelson Mandela and Samora Machel.
He commended Algeria’s support to Uganda in its operations in Somalia, and to the education sector through scholarships.
The ambassador expressed Algeria’s pride in associating with Uganda because of President Museveni’s good governance, his continued struggle against HIV/AIDS and corruption, and his respect for human rights, saying his country shared the same values.
He expressed the need for the two countries to create a strong partnership to strength their economies.
Aziria pledged to become Uganda’s ambassador to Algeria, saying he had a fruitful stay in Uganda.
The envoy said during his stay, the number of scholarships Algeria offered Uganda rose from 10 to 60, adding that over 300 Ugandans study and work in Algeria.
