THE National Coalition Against Homosexuality and Sexual Abuses has petitioned Parliament, demanding an independent inquiry into homosexual reports in the country.
The petitioners want Parliament to investigate how the Police handle homosexual complaints.
The petitioners, led by Pastor Solomon Male of Arising Christ Church, presented the petition to the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi, yesterday.
They want the inquiry to specifically look into the conduct of the criminal investigations department chief, Edward Ochom, and his deputy, Moses Sakira, in relation to how they handled recent reports of homosexuality implicating Pastor Robert Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle center.
The Police cleared Kayanja and recommended that the pastors instead be prosecuted for the offence of “conspiracy to injure the reputation of pastor Kayanja.”
When contacted, Ochom said: “I have no comment because the case was investigated and forwarded to the DPP who advised on the legal procedures.”
Male said if the Police’s conduct towards homosexual complaints is not checked, it could lead to mob justice and terrorism.
Ssekandi commended the petitioners for the move and promised to forward the matter to the relevant committee to investigate it.
Early this month, Ndorwa West MP David Bahati (NRM) tabled a private member’s Bill calling for the death penalty or life imprisoned for people who commit homosexuality.
Homosexuality is banned in Uganda.
