THE DR Congo government has dismissed fears that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) remnants are recruiting massively to attack Uganda again.
“The Government and the security personnel in Congo will never allow any Ugandan dissident to arrange war and to operate in eastern Congo to attack Uganda,†the Chief in charge of Beni in DRC, Nyamwisi Batsotsi, said on Saturday.
Batsotsi, who led a DRC officials to the official opening of Suncity Motel at the Mpondwe customs border town, traditionally known as Kathero shopping centre, said: “These so called ADF rebels are now like thugs, just thieves like you would have in Uganda,†Batsotsi said prompting applause from a crowd that gathered outside the motel.
Last month, the DRC security forces intercepted four people including a woman, who had been allegedly lured into joining the ADF rebel remnants hiding in the eastern DRC and handed them back to Uganda.
Batsotsi urged Ugandans living on the common border who go to the DRC side for cultivation, to use the right entry channels.
Uganda’s Gen. James Kazini, a key figure in the war against the ADF rebellion who helped rout them from the Rwenzori mountains, was the chief guest.
Kazini hailed the people of Kasese for fighting alongside the UPDF to oust the ADF and for utilising the prevailing peace to develop the area.
