Professor Allan Thompson’s book - “The role of the Media in Rwanda” will be launched in Uganda tomorrow.

Thompson, a journalism professor at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, is also a columnist with the Toronto Star, Canada’s daily newspaper.

The launch will coincide with a talkshow by different media personalities on the role the media played during the 1994 genocide.
The function is slated to take place at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala.

Thompson will highlight how the media in Rwanda incited the public to kill the Tutsis and moderate Hutu, according to a statement released yesterday.

The role of the international media will also be highlighted.

The New Vision managing director, Robert Kabushenga, and Daily Monitor’s political editor, Charles Mwanguhya, are expected to give short presentations on lessons for Uganda’s media and the Government.

Thompson’s book has been co-published by Pluto Press and Fountain Publishers.
