FOUR former LRA rebels have confessed that their leader, Joseph Kony, and his deputy Vincent Otti ordered them to ambush vehicles and kill civilians on roads leading to the South Sudan capital, Juba.
During a talk-show on Mega FM on Monday, Okello Akwego, said: “When we reached Owiny-Kibul, we stayed there for two weeks and Kony ordered us to leave, claiming the UPDF had surrounded us.â€
According to Akwego, Dominic Ongwen and Caesar Acellam then tried to cross the Blue Nile to join Kony and Otti.
“Otti instructed Kwoyelo to lead us and cross the Nile. But on our way, UPDF soldiers seized a truck full of food and jerrycans.â€
Akwego explained that when the UPDF blocked them, Kony ordered them to split up into five groups and carry out raids.
He stated that one group was commanded by Lt. Olworo, while the others were under Capt. Obwoya, Lt. Atube, and Capt. Awere.
“Obwoya burnt four vehicles and looted a satellite phone on the Torit-Juba road.â€
The LRA leadership has consistently denied allegations that they were responsible for the ambushes, instead blaming them on the UPDF.
Michael Ojok also confirmed that they carried out the ambushes and clashed with Sudanese forces. Ojok Ojuku said the rebels are now in the north.
Geoffrey Obalim added that the LRA clashed with the UPDF in South Sudan.
