THE parliamentary presidential affairs committee has recommended that research be carried out on possibilities of manufacturing a female condom better than femidom.
In a report to the House read by Tom Butime (Mwenge North), the committee was alarmed by the statistics about HIV prevalence, especially among women.
MPs observed that since femidom was shunned by the majority of women, a better condom acceptable to women be manufactured.
The committee also recommended the speedy enactment of the HIV/AIDS Bill to criminalise those who deliberately infect others.
It also demanded for the speedy compilation of the final report on the mismanagement of Global Fund for HIV/AIDS and action taken on those implicated in the scandal.
These are some of the issues in the committee report on the ministerial policy statement and budget estimates for the 2006/2007 financial year.
Mary Karooro Okurut (Bushenyi), the committee chairperson, only made introductory and concluding remarks on the report because of her injured back from an accident two weeks ago. She asked the government to investigate the increasing road carnage.
