THE Government has halted the licensing of security private firms to reduce on the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.

The internal affairs Permanent Secretary, Dr. Steven Kagoda, said the move was geared towards increasing public safety.

He was presenting internal affairs minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda’s speech during the Global Week of Action on small arms at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala yesterday.
Kagoda (above) said the increased number of private security firms had become a snare.

“When we carried out a survey, we found out that many of the companies were not operating within the required standards, which prompted us to seize their activities,” Kagoda said.
