Three people died on the spot and 12 others were injured, many of them critically, in an accident involving six vehicles on Saturday.
The accident was triggered off by a semi-trailer in Bwaise, Kawempe Division.
There were unconfirmed reports that the death toll had risen to four yesterday, after one of the victims rushed to Mulago Hospital, only identified as Florence, died at 5:00am.
A heavily-loaded Mercedes Benz trailer UAE 765T developed a mechanical problem on a slope and slammed into five other vehicles on Sir Apollo Kaggwa road. Loaded with construction material, the truck is said to have been heading to Lira.
Deputy Kampala Police chief, Stephen Kasiima said, “We suspect it was as a result of brake failure.”
The truck driver is said to have to have vanished, fearing mob justice.
All the dead were women, one of whom was hit by the truck as she attempted to flee to safety after she jumped out of a taxi.
