THE Chief Justice, Benjamin Odoki, has accused the government of sitting on his demands to increase judge’s salaries and improve their welfare.

Odoki said he had talked to officers concerned about the matter but no action had been taken.

He said this yesterday at the ongoing annual judges conference.

“I intend to continue pursuing appropriate organs to improve the terms and conditions of service of the judiciary employees. You can’t milk a cow without feeding it.

These matters have been tabled. I don’t know why there is no action taken,” Odoki said.

Odoki said his proposal to appoint new judges faced the same problem.

“May be it’s time we raise this through a petition signed by all judges. May be there are other forces that we don’t see,” he said.

Principal Judge James Ogoola said judges were stuck on the same pay for over seven years.

He said the Judiciary lacked funds and asked the Secretary of the Judiciary Ralph Ochan to find a solution to their problems.
