EC rejects

THE Electoral commission (EC) has rejected a proposal fronted by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) calling for the adoption of thumb-printing instead of ticking against a candidate in the February 23 elections. Commissioner Dr. Jane Okello on Thursday said EC could not abandon the ticking method in favour of the thumb-printing because the law provides for both options.

Chief denies

KAMPALA mayoral contestant Wilson kyambadde has denied press reports that he failed to pay 400 NRM mobilisers in Kawempe Division. “I have never been chairman of the NRM mobilisers in Kawempe as alleged and I have no responsibility over their payment. NRM mobilisers are volunteers who do not earn salary,” Kyambadde said on Wednesday.

Epak slams

OYAM South MP Dr. Okullo Epak has said the recent display of weapons during the NRM 20th anniversary at Kololo Airstrip shows that the government is capable of crushing the LRA rebels. Speaking on Radio North in Lira town on Sunday, Epak said the war was a creation of president Yoweri Museveni and his NRM government and that the people in power do not want it to end.

ABOUT 200 students of Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara will graduate with bachelors degrees in different disciplines on February 17 at the university campus in Kakoba. The academic registrar, Alfred Bangirana, on Thursday said Anglican archbishop Henry Luke Orombi would preside over the university’s maiden graduation. The university was started in 2002.

‘I am NRM’

FORMER city engineer Abraham Byandaala has accused detractors in Luweero of branding him a DP supporter disguised as a Movementist. Byandaala, who is contesting for the Katikamu North parliamentary seat on the NRM ticket, on Wednesday said he was being falsely accused because he worked with a predominantly DP leadership in Kampala.
