  • THE UPC presidential candidate, Miria Kalule Obote, has scoffed at the Government industrialisation campaign, saying it is not feasible with the current acute power shortages, writes Frank Mugabi.

“Is the Government serious? How do you talk of industrialisation when the power we have is even not enough for domestic consumption?” Miria said.

Addressing one of her largest campaign rallies at Yumbe Boma Grounds on Friday, Miria said Uganda was endowed with many waterfalls that the Government could utilise for hydro-electric power, with at least one station in each region.

She said people in West Nile, like other regions, were suffering from severe load-shedding, because of the Government’s reluctance to access foreign assistance to construct smaller dams.

“In West Nile we have Nyagak. At one time the Italian government was prepared to construct a dam there but our government stopped them.” she said.
