THE State and the defence lawyers for jailed Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi have protested the production of a movie dubbed ‘Murder In the City’ based on the story of Kiyingi, who is accused of murdering his wife Robinah Kiyingi.
Court has summoned Ashraf Simwogerere, the brain behind the film, to explain why the movie should not be stopped.
Buganda Road Court magistrate Justine Atukwasa said she could not immediately order for the ban of the movie without hearing from the writer.
“It would be unfair for me to stop the writer from continuing with the movie before he explains. I am accordingly summoning him to appear on October 10 to explain why his movie should not be stopped,” Atukwasa said.
Kiyingi’s case had turned up for mention when prosecutor Hellen Wenene said inquiries into the case were incomplete but she had an urgent application to make.
“I have a fresh application to make regarding the release of a movie titled Dr. Kiyingi (Murder in the City). It is my prayer that the writer of the movie be stopped from using Dr. Kiyingi’s name, who is a suspect in this court, as the title for his movie,” she said.
McDusman Kabega, appearing together with Nsubuga Mubiru, said, “The writer of this movie should not only be stopped from using the name of our client but the whole project should be stopped.
