COURT yesterday issued a warrant of arrest for city tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia to answer charges of causing a nuisance in Bukoto, a city suburb.

Nakawa Division prosecutor Steven Okuku requested for the warrant after Ruparelia’s failure to appear at City Hall Court yesterday. Ruparelia’s lawyers were also absent.

Grade One Magistrate Gaster Mugoya granted the warrant to be executed until September 12.

Okuku said Ruparelia had absconded from court since the State filed a case against him in April. He said the warrant would be addressed to the Police.

Ruparelia is represented by Razida Nangwala and Company Advocates. He is charged with three counts.

Prosecution alleges that on February 4, 2005, at Kabira Club in Bukoto, Ruparelia caused a nuisance in Nakawa division and the district contrary to the Public Health Act.

Ruparelia owns Kabira Country Club. It is also alleged that he discharged sewage into a storm water channel across Bukoto-Ntinda road contrary to section 57 (H) and 59 of the Public Health Act.

The sewage is producing a disgusting odour in the surrounding areas.
