CONGOLESE armed forces (FADRC) on Thursday attacked Ugandan rebels at Kyavinyonge, 45km southwest of the Congolese town of Butembo, sources said, yesterday.
They said the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), led by Yusuf Kabamba, were still active on the western slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains and on the north-eastern axis of Virunga national park in Congo.
Congolese intelligence sources yesterday said at least two ADF rebels were killed and four others were wounded and captured in the clashes. The source said FADRC was still pursuing the rebels.
“These Ugandan rebels are a nuisance and have ruined relations between Uganda and Congo. We shall expel them from our land,†the Congolese source said.
A Ugandan security source confirmed that ADF and FADRC clashed.
The source said in a recent agreement, DRC army Chief of Staff Gen. Kisempa vowed that his forces would hunt down the Ugandan rebels.
The ADF, believed to be about 400 to 600, have also been contacted by the UN observer mission in Congo, which preached the Amnesty message from the Uganda government to them.
