Chameleone to be arrested

LOCAL artiste Jose Chameleone is to be arrested as soon as he returns from his tour of Europe, reports Herbert Ssempogo.

The deputy officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for Kampala Extra, Charles Tumwesigye, yesterday said Chameleone had jumped the bond given to him by Jinja Road Police Station, over a case of assaulting a fellow musician.
“He got bond from the station on July 8 but he did not go back on July 11 as the Police had instructed him,” Tumwesigye said.

A long-standing feud between Chameleone and Bobi Wine escalated into violence earlier this month at Angenoir Discotheque, in which another musician, Bebe Cool, was allegedly cut with a knife while trying to diffuse a fight between the two.

Tumwesigye said Chameleone (above) was also wanted by the Police for failing to record a statement about the incident.

Regional Police Commander for Kampala Extra Benson Nyeko said, “The problem is that the officers at Jinja Road Police Station just released him without recording a statement.”

Tumwesigye said Chameleone would have to record a statement when he returns.
Chameleone’s brother, Jeff Mayanja, recorded a statement over the weekend at Kampala Central Police Station in which he refuted allegations of participating in the brawl.

Some entertainment centres in Kampala have stopped the artiste’s performances until the wrangles are resolved.
