CARE International in Uganda implements the
Rights, Equity & Protected Area (REPA) programme
targeting the poor and marginalised
women and men in communities neighbouring
wildlife protected areas in south western Uganda.
To further strengthen its activity implementation,
REPA has established a Field Coordinator position
which focuses on empowering ethnic minorities
to meet their rights and responsibilities through
advocating for social and political inclusion, and
diversified economic choices. The REPA program
(2003-2008), employs a rights based approach,
and is implemented in partnership with Civil Society
Organisations as well as structured in projects
which all contribute to the programme goal.
Job summary
Reporting to the REPA Technical Manager -
Accountability and Empowerment, the Field
Coordinator is responsible for REPA and its partners'
activities at field level, active participation in
planning, implementation, monitoring, reviewing
and documenting processes and progress. S/he
will be based in Kasese, with significant field travel
to support project undertakings, as well as working
with project partners and target beneficiaries.
Main responsibilities:
=> Work with implementing partners and civil
society organisations to plan, implement,
monitor, document and evaluate projects
activities to ensure effective and efficient
achievement of projects' objectives.
=> Initiate, and support coordination and
collaboration of partners' activities so as
harness synergies of their respective
contribution to promote empowerment of ethnic
minorities around QEPA.
=> Support Technical Managers (TMs) to provide
management and technical support to selected
partners to develop and implement activity
plans, and quality assurance of field partner
activities as well as supporting ethnic minority groups to process their advocacy issues, and
promote accountability in service delivery.
=> Support capacity building and training for
partners and target communities groups in
identified technical & organisational areas
under guidance of the relevant REPA manager
or coordinator (Advocacy and Organisational
Development).
=> participate in activities of other projects as well
as engaging on broader CARE Uganda
programme and administration initiatives:
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
A bachelors' degree in Sociology, Rural
economics, Development studies, Community
development or related areas is preferred
At least 3 years experience in community
mobilisation and rural development work
employing community-based approaches work
with ethnic minorities in a rural settings
Knowledge and experience in working with
human rights and natural resources sector
experience working with local government,
district-based CSOs as well as CBOs
Good mobilisation, facilitation, team building
and communication skills
Adaptability, relations building and nurturing,
planning, innovation and effective
communication will be of added advantage.
Knowledge of the local language(s) is an added
advantage
