| No lessons to learn yet since she hasn't stepped down. What if she adheres to the call of "revolutionaries don't..........?" My thinking is well focused Ugandans can contribute to nation building even outside the mainstream "national cake" given an environment of fair and equal participation. So she gets my kudos only when she retires. But wait a minute, Ugandans only retire when they reach retirement age? How would it be termed if one went for one elective term and willingly stepped down thereafter? Statesmanship or Patriotism? Not at least retirement in our language! |
| Freedom of expression is an entitlement, not a favour to pay gratuity for! authored by John M. Ishengoma on 24. February 2010 at 16:17 |
Beddy,
In response to your contribution as pasted below, I wish to contend that: Freedom of expression is an entitlement, and not a favour to pay gratuity for! And besides, the freedom of expression you say we have is not a fully blown one especially when the very people you want us to thank for restoring it are the very ones heavily clumping down on the freedom they boast of having restored (closure of radio stations deemed to be with opposition views; restriction of cultural leaders' freedom of movement; use of military violence clumping down peaceful demonstrations; frustration of opposition politicians from carrying out their duties; etc).
I don't think there is any such thing as fully blown freedom of expression in our country. It is all dictatorial on the rising again.
It would be unthinkable and almost suicide to discuss a politicians intentions openly in the press, "bimeeza", parliament, etc during Amin's or Obote's times. We tend to have little or no memories of the terrors of past regimes in Uganda but I can see the fruits of democracy in these opinion writings today. Wananchi may even abuse, rebuke, provoke, challenge, praise, thank, support, etc poticians. Unbelievable but very true. Whom to thank, anyway ?. It is the collective unity of most patriotic Wananchi and their current political leaders, who are out to unite, develope, build, save and secure the beloved nation - Uganda. Mweyagale !!. |

People lets face facts, a few politicians have been mentioned above and are requested to take Mukwayas way to sign off. This is good but to me I think it would be better for most of them to wave bye as they have all done what they spoke of and basically has no more to do here. This could take the course of the Nile but instead from north to south (Top to bottom).
I don't know how to thank Janet as nothing special can be shown as an achievement by herself or the Government she is serving. Janet is aware of the fact that her government is on the move (out). So to save face she had to take this short cut.
Janet back to the village or Entebbe, you are out grown

To retire and go back home to our people with some dignity and respect and still able to maintain our faculties.
To accept defeat when we lose elections and go back to our native villages and develop the country and the villagers at large.
EMULATE Janet Mukwaya and the former PM ,Hon Kintu Musoke |

| if she is still deciding, she should speed up her decision.we have seen enough of her.political careerism is not good for a young democracy, politicians should learn to contribute to society positively without being in the ceentre seat.its the right thing to do.there is life after politic. |

To hear that the veteran minister intends to retire from elective politics is a welcome piece of news. In Uganda and Africa as a whole,it is not often that leaders leave out of their own free will.
Mukwaya should be commended and majority of other aging public servants should be encouraged to do so. It is important to leave when one is on the top of her game so as to leave behind a lasting legacy...
Once again,i congratulate her on this decision. |
| Uganda is for all, young blood come up here! authored by deon on 30. January 2010 at 19:02 |
Uganda is for all but not just for a few (selected) talented people. There are so many talented capable people especially the young blood in this country. Unless we have failed or not willing at all to identify them.
Thats the reason to give way to all these so many talented people versus same same old timers. Theres nothing wrong with that, man. Otherwise it would look like segregation and monopoly.
Uganda develops with all all her people without segregating none coz of being a young blood or their affiliations.
