There was always oil in Uganda.........Well since the motor car.... authored by Adrian on 13. March 2010 at 12:39
Let me please tell you of something that made me think today...

I saw a young man remove a drain cover in a compound in which one house is mine. He was pouring a black liquid into the drain. I asked him if he was disinfecting the drain, he did not reply. I investigated a few minutes later myself.

HE WAS POURING USED CAR OIL IN THE DRAIN.

This is very poisonous to the soil and to fish and water creatures as it seeps into the ground water and out to streams and rivers.

IN OTHER COUNTRIES IT IS COLLECTED AND RECYCLED. It is refined again and new additives are put in such that it is as good as new. It can then run in your car again.

WHY IS NO-ONE DOING IT HERE.......????

Back to the main topic. I hope oil is used to benefit the country as a whole. But once again I have an uneasy dark feeling in my heart.

Stable society authored by Ras on 6. March 2010 at 14:26
Good point King,

there no certain way, that the (oil) wealth will be distributed equally in the society. Each individual member can influence this, so we build a stable democratic society, where coups and dictators have no place.

NOT UNDER MUSEVENI!! authored by king on 1. March 2010 at 21:30
We should first throw out the Kleptomaniacs form power before we develop any oilfields or we will have a worse dissaster than the River Niger Delta in the River Nile resulting in a possible war with Sudan and Egypt due to a spill in Uganda.

M7 imprisoned a whole tribe, killed thousand and now buys 2 jets simply because he learnt that there is oil in the North. If our so called leader spend the oil money before it is realised, how much more wasteful will he be when the oil statrts to flow.

i do understand and am not totally against.yes its there and we can profit from it but at what cost? when i mean future it can be next year, why do u think britain is pulling out and selling to itarly, places like london city if u read about them want to be zero emmission cities so they are fighting fuels that cause co2 and they are investing into other new fuels and itarly will pull out too because there are very many alternative to oil that are already in the market.the companies that will extract that oil will proberbly use it for different purposes and that means that they will be buying at a cheap price.my question is,is it worth compared to the side effects that may cost us more than we are earning from the oil.
i will give u an example, why would u open up acompany dealing in asbestos roofing because there is a big market and big money when two year down the road your employees are going to end up with carncer and take u to court which will order u to compaset all these people and the land owner around u come and complain about their land fields because of the waste coming from u company has destroyed the fertility of their land. then three years down the road another investor comes up with a plastic roofing company? compare the profits u have made and the distruction u have caused and the amout of TIME u have invested and see if it will hav been worth the effort when u would have invested in the other opotions in the roofing industry.

step by step authored by Ras on 21. November 2009 at 12:34
malit: I agree with you that the future of energy sources is somewhere else then in oil. But that is the future. Right now, if Uganda wants to profit from it's natural resources, it is oil. Sustainable development and sharing the oil profits across the whole society is another question.

In my opinion it is inevitable to use oil as means to invest in the 'future energy sources' development.

oil in uganda authored by malit on 12. November 2009 at 23:58
i would like to ask a simple question. Do people have access to international news and developments going on world wide?
yes its good we have oil but how much negative effects are we going to have long before we have damaged our country and even no one is interested in our so called treasure.
the whole world is fighting against globle warming, all the G8 nations are redusing their carbon emissions and investing less into fosil energy resources (oil ). Our agricultural production is on the decline, the climate is unberably hot, the top soil which helps with the eco convestion of the Nox gases (co2) has rapidly detoriated and yet we are going to start extracting oil from the very few water sources we have.
Where are the weaste products going to be deposited with out destroying the land, wild life and water contermination and marine life.
there is no company at this moment in time with the on going finacial crunch that is going to invest money to meet these stardards, only those that are going to get the oil quick get easy money and leave us for dead.
THIS IS A WRONG WAY TO GO AND ITS GOING TO BE OR WILL BE A BIG MISTAKE AND NO ONE WILL COMPASET NO ONE. ITS THE POOR PEOPLE OF UGANDA.(farmine, more floods and detoriating climate)

The world is moved forward, even saudi arabia and most oil countries are investing in defferent economies at preset EG DUBAI`S " palm islands"
All companys and governments are investing in eco freindly systems for cars etc to reduce the earths carbon print.
IF WE WANT TO JOIN THE RACE FOR SELLING ENERGY SOURCES WE NEED TO FOLLOW THE ECO DEVELOPMENTS AND ONE OF THEM IS BIOFUELS EXTRACTED FROM CORN (MAIZE) AND BANANAS(MATOKE),HYDROGENE FROM WATER. THIS IS NOT FIXTION ITS HAPPENING. MOST CAR FACTORYS ARE CHANGING TO ENGINES TO USE THESE FUELS AND HYBRIDE VEHICLES.

LET US NOT BE PART OF THE RACE BY FOLLOWING THE FRONT RUNNERS BUT LETS JOIN THE RACE AND KEEP UP WITH THE FRONT PACE.

NO TO THE EXTRACTION OF OIL ITS A WASTE OF RESOURCES AND DESTRUCTION OF MANY OTHER USEFUL ECO SYSTEMS.
FOR MORE INFORMATION READ ABOUT ECO SYSTEMS AND THE EFFECTS OF GLOBLE WARMING AND EMISSION LAW TO BE FOLLOWED BY 2012.
PLEASE SOMEONE PROVIDE SEARCH INFORMATION TO OUR PEOPLE. WITH LOVE FOR MY COUNTRY.

Don't mind the 'oil curse' authored by Ras on 5. November 2009 at 01:30
Please please Uganda can greatly benefit from its oil resources. As previous commentators pointed out, with strong and honest government, law framework and infrastructure, natural resources can be the greatest asset.

It can literally 'fuel' development in other sectors of economy - bringing change into anything from transportation to online services.

Again have to point out again my experience from Philippines - the right mindset brought things like lowcost flights or online accommodation for rent Manila.

Ugandan Oil for Ugandan People without looking after tribes whatever... authored by Riccardo on 25. July 2009 at 13:10
Just short: Mugabe told you the right things and I am with him!!!!!

Thanx man! You got it!

this is good for ugaandans authored by Mugabe on 9. April 2009 at 23:41
Looking through all te articles posted i think as a peson and someone who has seen the developements since the discovery of oil and gas in this country, ugandans stand a chance of benefiting from it,though for this to happen alot has to be done which is not yet on the ground.my fellow readers nd ugandans what we need to do is this:
1-Educate our children in the fields of gas and oil such that we can have ugandans working in the fields other than the so called experts
2-Stop looking at this whole thing in terms of tribes, regions, and political groups but to look at this as a resource for all ugandans
3-Put in place as early as possible the rules and regulations to govern the oil exploration, clearly detailing sharing of the inputs and outputs by both the exploration companies and the government
4-Stop corruption before we start production.this i mean land grabing in the name of looking for pasture by baralo, lincing many unknown companies to do this job, soliciting for jobs in these comnies evenif those influetial people dont have the necessary qualities
5-harmonise the environmental laws regarding the parks, lakes and other resources with those of the oil exploration
these and many other points needs to be done and then lastly our MPs and political heads hassop this malwa talks on bimenza ans start educating thier people the benefits of this gift on nature other than going there to talk about how Museven has shares in the oil and yet some of these people dont even have the basic ideal of how is drilled

By his statement I get the impression that he believes that he owns the oil and he will give to us what he sees fit, like a primary schools, huge investments in personel to environmental standards (to whose standard ? ) . About the monies, we appreciate his' risking his money for hopefully the benefit of all of us. However this is only because our leadership has lost their sense of duty to the nation, and are apparently bent on doing the Mobutu thing. The way I see it, the 340b invested so far compares poorly with 1.6t recently thrown to the dogs by our custodians, and for that 340b, we lose our birth right to immense wealth. But he should not think that he is doing us a favour.
