What a nosense! Uganda has lots of problems and to give aid, though a thoughful gesture, is highly inappropriate for a country that can not pay its own bills. Many Ugandans are living in abject poverty. Why don't we look after them or is it because they are not a good propaganda machine? Our country is being plundered by greedy and unethical bullys who wish to set themselves up on the international stage. The developed countries here are laughing at us. It reminds me of the time Idi Amin tried to give the UK foreign aid. Come to think of it, our beloved president is picking up on the mannerism of his predecessors as time goes on. We will soon have a full fledged Idi Amin or Obote for that matter.

Yes,
Uganda like any other countries that took part in assisting the US gvt. in helping Katrina victims was a good idea, US gvt has helped the entire world, Uganda inclusive, in the fight against AIDS, and other developments. This was then Uganda,s time to make a tythe, however little it was.
As a Ugandan in the US, I felt hapy to see that my country contributed in helping these people desplaced by natural reactions.
Please Uganda, keep it up. continiue respecting your neighbours. Love them as you love yourself.
Thanks.

Its the thought that counts authored by jaky on 12. December 2005 at 02:41
Its a good thing to help those in need, for a friend in need is a friend indeed. What am not sure about is whether the US will even feel the pinch of this aid. But then again, Uganda is not a first world country and its the thought and effort that count. So well done.

How do you tell who is a fool? When he or she opens his/her mouth.
Poverty is over in Uganda according to Museveni, who was on a four-day wealth creation crusade in the region, said “Some people think that there is poverty in Uganda, that is not true. http://www.monitor.co.ug/news/news12076.php
Who said that guy has got a vision for Uganda? Poverty is over when your salary is still paid by donor money? When over 70% of the population are still living in poverty and another +70% are also unemployed ? |

uganda ought to help other states when they need help. There is no one or government that is self sufficient and this was truly exposed with Katrina. The US regardless of any reservations i certainly have, tries to help and Uganda as a beneficiary needed to reciprocate. God bless

This is the time for us
The Fig Trees along the paths
To bear fruits
To feed the thirsty and hungry!
This is the time for us
The Ten teens among the aged
To dare our roots
To bridge the disputable boundary!
This truly is the time for us
The Free Trees lining the halls
To air our looks
To breed more fruit than leaf!
Otherwise,
The curse of the Gardener
Shall shell and smite shame
Gunned from an age without!

AFRICA AND AFRICAN AMERICANS UNITE !! authored by Dr. Bill Releford on 28. November 2005 at 06:37
As an Afican American, I think this was a very powerful gesture and message. The images shown all over the world were people that looked like those in any developing country in Africa or the Caribbean. The world was shocked that this type of poverty persists in the U.S. When Africa begins to reach out to its children where ever they may be, the lies and myths used to keep us fragmented are replaced with the spark that could unite the worlds largest sleeping GIANT.

A gesture appreciated authored by Mike Openshaw on 22. November 2005 at 19:38
As a U.S. citizen with interests in Uganda and who realizes just how much good the money can do inside Uganda, I found it an extremely thoughtful gesture. However, I am hoping that, while taking the gift in the spirit it was intended, that our government boosts whatever aid we may normally give to Uganda by an equal or larger, amount. I know how much good I could have done with my last visit if I, as a charity volunteer, had had $200K to work with. The U.S. in indeed a wealthy country, but- like any other reasonable nation- receiving good will is always appreciated.
